Nae nae - hip-hop craze

Atlanta - the city that taught the world how to spin like Soulja Boy has presented the world with another new hip-hop faction. Nae nae, as another faction is just called, has spread across the country at lightning speed. It was developed by teenagers from the WeAreToonz group. Their dance is inspired by one of the characters in the 1990s TV series "Martin," and the song "Drop that #naenae" was created to promote nae nae.

The WeAreToonz group created the new dance style in one of their basements while preparing for a performance. On October 08, 2013, to be exact, a video was first released on youtube showing the rest of the public how to dance nae nae. A few days later, the official music video was released. Popularity grew instantly. Through the use of virtually all available social media sites (including Instagram, twitter, youtube), they reached a huge number of children and young people who began to practice a dance that was new to them. On Twitter alone, there have been more than 1.1 ml mentions with the hashtag #NaeNae in the last 90 days, which can attest to the truly enormous interest in the topic.

If you think that this dance is suitable only for children then you are mistaken. Nae nae has become so popular that it is just as likely to be performed by students and even athletes. One NBA star, Dwight Howard, happily performs the nae nae after hitting a basketball. In addition, the guys from WeAreToonz met the player in person and recall the event with enthusiasm. They stated that he is crazy, like a big kid who can enjoy everything, which is why nae nae is just right for him.

But why exactly such a name? The guys explain that the dance is inspired by the character Sheneneh Jenkins - a female character played by Marin Lawrence who aims to show in a rather funny way how girls have fun in clubs. The character was so much to their liking, along with the moves they made, that they decided to use it.

It must be said that nae nae is a dance particularly well-known among circles of young people studying in the States, athletes, but also musicians. During Pharrell's performance to the song "Happy," the dancers incorporated elements of nae nae into their choreography. A similar situation occurs in J-Lo's video for the song "I Luh Ya Papi," where the singer with two dancers also performs a characteristic step. Unfortunately, this faction of hip-hop turns out to be little known in Poland.
